Stem Cell Research
The cells in our body have many different
functions and they “stem” from simpler cells
that are not yet specified (do not have a
specific function). These primal cells are
called “stem cells” and are found in all
multicellular organisms. They are the
foundation cells for every organ, tissue and
cell in the body. These cells can be
harvested, grown and transformed into
specialized cells of various tissues such as
muscles, cartilage, or nerves through
appropriate cell culture.
Potential of Stem Cell (Pros of Stem Cell
Research / Benefits of Stem Cell Research)
Stem cells have an enormous potential to
benefit different areas of disease research
and management. Medical researches
anticipate being able to use technologies
derived from stem cell research to treat a
broad range of conditions including spinal
cord injuries, burns, diabetes and
cardiovascular diseases amongst others.
Stem Cell Therapy for Regenerative Medicine
At MIR we focus on “Stem Cell Therapy” for
regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine
is medical intervention to create compatible
cell lines that can replace cells and
tissues damaged by injury, aging or disease.
Current Research at MIOT Institute of
Research
MIR is harvesting human stem cells from
adipose (Fat) tissues and bone marrow in
vitro. We have already successfully
harvested stem cells from adipose tissue (ADSCs)
and bone marrow (BMSCs) and differentiated
them with specific proteins.
Research with these cells is currently
focused on certain heart diseases and bone
disorders.
In a few months MIR has made rapid strides
in stem cell research and aims to be in the
forefront of medical breakthroughs in stem
cell therapy in India.
